1. noun Comedy that is delivered by someone standing alone in front of an audience. Jerry Seinfeld made his name in stand-up before launching his mega-famous TV show. His stand-up really needs some work. I didn't laugh once.
2. adjective Describing or related to such comedy. I can't stomach the thought of being on stage, so life as a stand-up comedy is definitely not for me. I'll stick to writing comedy instead! I know she's popular, but her stand-up special just wasn't that funny to me.
3. adjective, slang Courageous and steadfast in one's loyalty and moral principles. Look, Tom, you're a stand-up guy, so I know you're going to do the right thing. I can't say enough good things about Lisa. She's a stand-up lady who never fails to deliver on her promises.
