stamp (something) out of (someone or something)

To eradicate some trait, characteristic, or tendency from a person or thing. The teachers at our school are instructed to be so strict in order to stamp laziness and bad behavior out of our students. The proposed legislation aims to stamp corruption out of every level of government.

Fig. to eliminate a characteristic of someone or something; to destroy a characteristic of someone or something. I would really like to stamp that mean streak out of you. We were not able to stamp the excess costs out of the proposal and had to reject it. We couldn't stamp out their bad behavior.
