skip rope

To hop repeatedly over a length of rope that is swung over one's head by oneself or by two other people. The coach made us skip rope for nearly 45 minutes as part of our conditioning. Geez, I haven't skipped rope since I was a kid. I don't know if I can even do it anymore!

skipping rope

The act or practice of hopping repeatedly over a length of rope that is swung over one's head by oneself or by two other people. God, I hate skipping rope. I get tripped up so easily that I feel like I might as well be doing something else. Our family was pretty poor, so skipping rope was a cheap way to keep ourselves entertained as kids.
