Excessive or exaggerated sentimentalism, especially in art, music, or writing. Originally from Yiddish. The film is chock-full of schmaltz, to be sure, but it would take a heart of stone not to be moved by it all the same. Her latest romance novel has all the typical schmaltz we've come to expect by this point.

n. extreme sentimentality; corny sweetness. (From a Yiddish word meaning fat or oil.) I didn’t like that movie. Too much schmaltz.
