roam around

To move or wander in an aimless, ambling, unrestricted manner around (some place or area). Mr. Jackson is always roaming around the school after everyone else has gone home. I only had a day in London, so I just spent the time roaming around, trying to get a sense of the city. There have been reports of a bear roaming around the neighborhood, so be careful.
