1. To give one more energy or alertness. Add an extra shot of espresso to my latte. I need something that will put some spring in my step!
2. To cause one to have a happy, energetic, and excited mood or manner, as indicated by the carefree way one walks. Getting that promotion sure seems to have put a spring in Joe's step. I know you're feeling down right now, but I've got a bit of good news that I think will put a spring in your step!
