pay a kingly price (for something)

To pay an exorbitant sum of money for something. I've always wanted to vacation in Hawaii, but not if I have to pay a kingly price for plane tickets. A: "Oh, someone finally bought that big mansion?" B: "Yep, and I hear they paid a kingly price, too."
