rude slang An especially irritating, aggravating, or obnoxious person, thing, act, or situation. Primarily heard in Ireland. The application process is such a pain in the hole that most people don't even bother. The way this oven is built makes it a total pain in the hole to clean. You know, Jack, you may be my friend, but you can be a real pain in the hole sometimes!
