1. To not understand or comprehend something. I've read this chapter three times, but I'm just not getting it. A: "I'm reading a book about zero gravity. It's impossible to put down!" B: "I don't get it." A: "It's a joke, Tom. Sheesh."
2. To not appreciate the seriousness or significance of something. A: "I know you're disappointed that your book was stolen, but it's not the end of the world." B: "You don't get it, Mom—that book was signed by the author in 1928. It's irreplaceable!"
