mash up
In each usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "mash" and "up."
1. To crush or smash something into dust or paste. To start, mash up the avocadoes until they are completely smooth, then begin mixing in the tomatoes, onions, and lime juice. You've got to mash the bananas up before you add them to the recipe.
2. To combine two songs or recordings to create a single audio track. He became very popular for the clever way he mashes up classical music and gangster rap. The director has mashed a gross-out comedy up with a vampire horror film to create something quite unlike anything else you'll see this year—for better or worse.
