To remain calm and wait for something. A variant of the more common phrase "keep (one's) shirt on." Typically used as an imperative. Keep your shorts on, dude—the pizza will be here soon enough. Everything would have been fine if Larry had just kept his shorts on instead of submitting the software update early.
