To proceed or move forward in very small increments or very gradually. I inched forward toward the bug and then whacked him with the fly swatter. You're fine—if you just inch forward out of the driveway, you won't hit anything. I inched forward into the house after curfew as silently as possible—that is, until I knocked over the coat rack and woke everybody up.
