1. In a luxurious or glamorous way. I rented us a limo so we can travel to the gala in style! The actress pulled up in style in a cherry red vintage convertible. A private jet? My goodness, we're really going to Paris in style!
2. Trendy or fashionable. Sorry, but leisure suits aren't in style any more. Hey, shag carpeting was in style when your grandparents first bought this place! I do miss the big hair of the '80s—I wish it were still in style!
3. In a striking or outstanding manner. In this usage, an adjective (such as "great" or "fine") can be used before "style." A: "Wow, Ben threw quite a bash!" B: "Well, he always ushers in the new year in fine style." The princess does not want to travel in style. She wants to be treated like she's just an ordinary person. Have you been to the team's charity gala yet? They always celebrate that event in style.
