7. verb, slang To kiss. I heard Jenny hooked up with Brian. Did you two hook up yet? Come on, they must have hooked up if they now both have mono—the "kissing disease"!
8. verb, slang To have a casual sexual encounter. I can't believe you hooked up with my ex-boyfriend! A: "So when are you gonna tell Marcy you hooked up with her new boyfriend?" B: "Never, because that meant nothing and happened way before they were dating!" I don't like hooking up with guys. I prefer to have actual, meaningful romantic relationships.
9. noun, slang A casual sexual encounter. In this usage, the phrase is often written as one word ("hookup"). It was just a hookup—we're not dating or anything. I thought it would just be a quick summer hookup, but we've been together ever since! I know you think it's just a hookup, but she doesn't. Don't break her heart, OK?
10. noun, slang Someone with whom one has had a casual sexual encounter. In this usage, the phrase is often written as one word ("hookup"). He was just a hookup—we're not dating or anything. I honestly don't remember—it's not like I keep a list of my hookups or something. Why are things so awkward between you two? OMG, was he your secret summer hookup?

1. Lit. to attach someone or something to someone or something. The nurse hooked the patient up to the oxygen tubes. They hooked up the patient with the tubes.
