hold it

hold it

1. Stop. Hold it, everybody! This scene just isn't working. Hold it, let that woman cross the street first. Hold it right there! You're under arrest!
2. To wait to urinate (typically because a bathroom is not available). A: "Mom, I really have to go!" B: "Can you hold it for a little longer? It's a few miles before the next exit." I had to pee, but there was no toilet nearby so I had to just hold it. I didn't want to miss any of the movie, but eventually I couldn't hold it anymore and had to leave for the bathroom.
