hold (one) to (one's) word

To force, compel, or pressure one to do what one promised or pledged. These companies all agreed to abide by the ruling, but we need to set up an oversight committee that holds them to their word. A: "Sure, I'll help you move your stuff on Saturday." B: "Really? I hope you mean it, because I'll hold you to your word." Ed won't follow through on anything unless you hold him to his word, which is incredibly frustrating.
