hoard up

To accumulate and keep large quantities of something. A now or pronoun can be used between "hoard" and "up." People tend to hoard up things like bread, milk, and eggs when they've heard a bad winter weather forecast. My grandparents have hoarded up plenty of canned food over the years in case there's some sort of apocalyptic event. Hey, one toy per person! We only have a limited amount to sell, and we're not letting anyone hoard them up!

hoard something up

to accumulate a large store of something against bad times. Scott was hoarding canned goods up for the hard times ahead. He hoarded up many pounds of canned tuna.
