have the worst of (something)

To feel or experience the brunt or the most negative aspects of something. I had the worst of the boss's anger over the printing mishap because I'm the first one he saw after hearing about it. The accident wasn't too bad—my bumper had the worst of it. His jaw had the worst of the punch. The doctor says it will have to be wired shut for a month.
