have (something) in common (with someone or something)

To share characteristics, interests, opinions, etc. with someone or something. Well, we have one thing in common: we both hate asparagus! The car has a lot in common with the more expensive model, but it does not have an advanced audio system. Why would you set me up with that guy? We have absolutely nothing in common!

have the same interests, characteristics or experience as somebody: Come and meet my sister. I’m sure you two have got a lot in common.I have nothing in common with Mark, so I find it quite difficult to talk to him.
