have a checkup

have a checkup

To receive a routine examination by a doctor, as to make sure that one is in good health or to monitor an illness. A: "I heard you had to go to the doctor on Wednesday." B: "Oh, don't worry, I was just having a checkup—everything's fine." I'm doing better, but I still have to have regular checkups to make sure that my cancer is in remission. Do people really need to have yearly checkups with their doctor? Ugh, going to the doctor—for any reason—just totally stresses me out.
