have a break

To have a brief respite (from some activity, endeavor, situation, etc.), especially in order to rest or to focus one's energy elsewhere. You've been looking after the kids all by yourself. When was the last time you had a break? Having a break from my career really helped me focus on the priorities in my life. I'd love to have a break from this nausea because it's been lasting all day long. "Morning sickness," yeah right!
