harness (an animal) up

To put a harness on an animal, usually a horse. Have the groom harness up the horses before Lord and Lady Bedford arrive. I have no idea how to harness up a horse—I haven't been riding for that long! Thankfully, one of the stablemen had already harnessed Goldie up, so I could just hop on her and take off after the thief.
