To cease to be pleasant, charming, or amusing once one arrives home. He's always cranky after work—it's like he hangs up his fiddle when he comes home. I swear, his co-workers get him at his best, and then he hangs up his fiddle when he comes home. Those two are miserable together anymore. It's like each of them hangs up their fiddle when they come home.
