gut-busting

gut-busting

1. Very difficult or tiring. Boy, moving all that furniture was gut-busting work—I'm exhausted. I'm not looking for some gut-busting workout, so I think I'm just going to take a gentle yoga class. You don't have to do gut-busting cardio, just go for a nice walk around the neighborhood. Just get some exercise somehow!
2. Focused on reducing the size of one's stomach (or "gut"). I definitely need some gut-busting exercises before bikini season rolls around. My expectations were low for that supposedly "gut-busting" workout video, but check it out—I kind of have abs now! Sis, why are you doing gut-busting workouts, you skinny little twig?
3. Describing food that is in some way very unhealthy. You can always count on Aunt Mary to bring some cheesy, buttery, basically gut-busting, casserole to Thanksgiving dinner. I may not have the healthiest diet, but there are a lot of gut-busting foods I never eat—like double bacon cheeseburgers. Oh, this cake is definitely gut-busting—feel how heavy it is!
