1. A thug or gangster armed with a gun. The mob boss is sending a couple gunsels around to make sure the accountant never makes it onto the witness stand. The woman was arrested when the gunsel she tried to hire turned out to be an undercover police officer. The boss will have a gunsel take care of the informant, don't worry.
2. obsolete A boy who has a sexual relationship with an older man; a catamite. The duke was long suspected of keeping several gunsels in his court, ranging in age from 14 to 19. A: "Why does the composer have so many young boys on his estate?" B: "You haven't heard the rumors? Neighbors think they're gunsels." The boy was only 13. He certainly couldn't consent to a relationship with his superior—he was a gunsel!
