1. Pursuing something or someone aggressively. Even since I got that promotion, Mike has been gunning for me. I know Emily is gunning for that job, but it sounds like she has a lot of competition. How many college students are gunning for the same internship as me?
2. Supporting someone or something. Sally is my friend, so of course I'm gunning for her in the election. His whole hometown was gunning for him as he made his professional boxing debut on live television. We're all gunning for you, kiddo. You're going to do great.
