goomer

gomer

slang
1. Someone who is unsophisticated or cloddish. Refers to Gomer Pyle, a character on The Andy Griffith Show who exhibited such traits. Did he really wear cut-off shorts to that fancy restaurant? What a gomer. When I knew John, he was a total gomer, but I guess he's converted to city life now. Why would you take your shoes off in the middle of a splashy work event? Are you a gomer?
2. A hospital patient who annoys or frustrates doctors, as due to frequent and varied medical complaints. Ugh, that guy's a real gomer—what does he claim is making him sick today? What if she's not actually a gomer, though? She is 90 years old, after all! Pretty sure he's a gomer—last week, he was in here for a cough that started 17 years ago, and, today, he has "really bad" headache.
