To opt for something that is known from previous experience to be reliably effective. A: "I don't know what to wear to this dinner party." B: "Why not go with the tried and true—a blazer with a button-up shirt?" I thought about trying some totally new recipe for the potluck, but I think I'll just stick with my lasagna. With so many people to cook for, I'll feel better going with the tried and true. We don't have the money to takes risks with our inventory right now. We have to go with the tried and true.
