To continue or proceed, especially despite problems or challenges. Oh, we're going on with our weekend plans—I refuse to let a little rain stop us! How can we go on with the gala? Our chief donor backed out and took his millions with him! The earthquake damaged the stadium to such an extent that league officials refused to go on with the scheduled game.

 and go on doing something
to continue with something. I can't go on with this. I have to rest. You simply cannot go on behaving like this!
