slang To make an emotional outburst of one's anger or irritation. Primarily heard in Australia. Mum went off like a frog in a sock when she found out that we hadn't been doing our homework. If he find out you're lying to him, he'll go off like a frog in a sock in front of the whole office. You might as well tell Dad you dented his car now—you know he'll go off like a frog in a sock if he finds out later.
