To do something to a drastic, inappropriate, or excessive degree. My brother teases me all the time, but he went a bit far when he started mocking my girlfriend too. Sure, we can pull a prank on the administrators, but don't you think you're going a bit far to break into the school? Dude, that's a crime. A customer cursed you out over an incorrect coffee order? Yeah, they went a bit far, I'd say.
