To put forth one's best effort in an endeavor that has ultimately failed. Bill and I gave it a good run, but we weren't right for each other in the end. Look, we've given it a good run, but the company just isn't viable anymore. A: "You don't think she gave the café a good run?" B: "No, I think she panicked and looked for the quickest way out when the profits weren't what she'd hoped for."
