To accelerate or rev an engine. The burglar leapt into the getaway car and yelled, "Give it the gun, the cops are coming!" Hey, give it the gun, someone's chasing me! A: "Give her the gun, would ya?" B: "I am, this old car just doesn't go as fast as she used to!"
