girls are like streetcars

girls are like streetcars

One is liable to meet another female romantic partner very soon. Said especially if one has recently been in a romantic relationship that has failed or turned out badly. The phrase alludes to the fact that one has many opportunities in life to meet women, just as a streetcar comes frequently to pick up passengers. The phrase is sometimes extended to reflect this, as in, "Girls are like streetcars—there's always another one coming." and "Girls are like streetcars—if you miss one, another will be along in (some period of time)." I know you are broken up about Janet leaving you, but girls are like streetcars. You'll meet another one soon enough. Whenever my sons were devastated by a break-up, I used to remind them that girls are like streetcars—there's always another one coming. Oh honey, girls are like streetcars—not only will you meet someone else, you may very well meet someone even more compatible.
