1. To become informed about the most current and accurate information (about something). I need to buy a newspaper so I can get up to date about current events. I use their site to get up to date because they update their homepage constantly. I know I need to get up to date on the policy changes happening this year—is there a reference guide I can consult?
2. To inform someone of the most current and accurate information (about something). In this usage, a noun or pronoun is used between "get" and "up." I know you missed a large portion of this project while you were away, but Tom will get you up to date. Sophie, will you please get the rest of the team up to date on the status of the project? Friday's meeting will get everyone up to date about this quarter's sales numbers.
