get the (dead) needle

To become particularly annoyed or vexed. Primarily heard in UK. I got the needle after reading that unflattering portrait of my company in the newspaper. I really get the dead needle about the way people drive in the bus lane, when they clearly aren't supposed to! Hey, take off your shoes—my mom gets the needle when people come into the house with dirty shoes.
