get on the phone
1. To begin talking to someone on the telephone. The boss just got on the phone, but I can tell her you stopped by. Holly gets on the phone with her boyfriend as soon as she comes home from school every day—it's so annoying. Get on the phone to maintenance, and hurry! There's water spraying everywhere!
2. To ask someone else to speak to the caller or join in on the current phone conversation. In this usage, a noun or pronoun is used between "get" and "on." Get Ryan on the phone—he's the only one that can sort out this mess. OK, well, this irate customer is demanding that I get the CEO on the phone. I think I need to get the leave coordinator on the phone—I have no idea what kind of time off this employee has available.
