get off the sauce

slang To stop consuming alcohol; to begin abstaining from alcohol. I got off the sauce because I was sick of feeling hungover all the time. Jim's trying to get off the sauce these days, so he doesn't want to go to the bar with us tonight. Ever since I got off the sauce, yeah, I'm healthier, but I find it hard to socialize with my friends.
