get a taste for (something)

1. To acquire a preference, inclination, or desire for some kind of food or drink. At first I was repelled by the thought of eating bugs, but they're a common snack in this country, and I got a taste for them eventually. It's funny how something can taste so disgusting when you're a kid, but then you end up getting a taste for it as you grow up. I've always been a vegetarian so I doubt I'll ever get a taste for red meat.
2. To acquire a strong preference, inclination, or desire to do or acquire something. She had gotten a taste for power after serving as mayor for two years. Tom seems to be getting a real taste for those daredevil sports, huh? You know, I never got a taste for travel, even after I retired.
