Used to preface something surprising or interesting, typically as an imperative.
1. Come have a look at this. Hey, guys! Get a load of this—someone graffitied the principal's car! Tim thinks he has first place in the science fair all wrapped up, but just wait till the judges get a load of this! A: "Have you seen their asking price? Here, get a load of this." B: "OK, that's absurd, considering all the work the place needs."
2. Listen to what I'm about to say. A: "Anything interesting in the news today, Pops?" B: "Yeah, get a load of this—someone in the next town over won the lottery last week!" Get a load of this—Liz found the perfect place to have our prom! Get a load of this—someone robbed a bank in Millville last night!
