1. To receive a harsh and lengthy scolding or reprimand (from someone). I got a good working over from the professor after I submitted my project late. She knew she was going to get a working over from her parents for breaking curfew. Man, I got a working over from the boss for messing up that client's account.
2. To be subjected to very rough, punishing treatment. The team won handily in the first round of the tournament, but they got a working over in their second game. Between the squats, deadlifts, and lunges, my legs really got a good working over in the weight room today! Have you seen the hulking defensemen they have? Our forwards are definitely going to get a working over in tonight's game.
