To begin something with great speed, energy, or intensity. The home team flew out of the traps against their competition in an attempt to gain an early advantage. I knew I didn't stand a chance when everyone else in my heat flew out of the traps the second the starting gun sounded. The Penguins are our biggest rival, so you know they'll fly out of the traps for this game. We need to be ready to do the same.
