flannelled fool
flannelled fool
One who plays the sport of cricket. Taken from the white flannel trousers cricketers wear. Primarily heard in UK. Every afternoon you can see us flannelled fools gathered in the park for a spot of cricket. A: "The fellow just asked me if I'm a 'flannelled fool' because I'm here in the park. Whatever does that mean?" B: "I bet it's because you're standing on the cricket pitch." I was a flannelled fool in my younger days, but I haven't held a cricket bat in ages.
