To quickly discharge or release something and direct it toward someone or something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "fire" and "back." "Yeah, but why is that my fault?" Sheila fired back to me defensively. We ran for cover when we heard him fire his gun back to us. I know you're upset, but don't fire an email back to her in anger—take some time to calm down first.
