exvangelical
1. A former evangelical Christian. If you're trying to cope with leaving your community, there are a lot of exvangelicals who share their experiences on Twitter. My path to becoming an exvangelical really started when I went away to college and became exposed to other religions and ways of life. Many exvangelicals were evangelicals who, as they grew up, found that they wanted to part ways with the beliefs of their parents.
2. A person who observes the tenets of evangelicalism but avoids the label "evangelical," typically due to its increased politicization and association with extreme conservativism. People have so many negative conceptions about the term "evangelical," so I've started calling myself an "exvangelical." Yeah, calling yourself an "exvangelical" doesn't exactly erase the polarizing nature of your religion. Why even say you're an "exvangelical" when you barely support evangelical Christianity these days?
