equal before the law

Having the same rights and responsibilities enshrined in law as any other person. One of the core tenets of our country is that all citizens remain equal before the law, no matter their gender, race, creed, sexual orientation, or economic class. A: "You're just being naïve if you think a billionaire and a peasant are truly equal before the law." B: "Well, I think you're just being a cynic." Your Honor, are we not all equal before the law?
