engrave (something) with (something)

1. To etch or carve something onto a surface or material. The woman at the store said that they can engrave the picture frame with our wedding date. Would you be able to engrave the ring with my late mother's initials? Our kids were eager to engrave the freshly paved sidewalk with their initials.
2. To use something, such as a tool, to etch or carve into a surface or material. The artist engraved a design into the linoleum with a small cutter. A: "You guys engraved a heart into the tree trunk with a pocketknife?" B: "Yeah, 'cause we're going out, like, officially now." I don't think you'll be able to carve your initials into your desk with just a pen.

1. . to carve something, such as letters, into something. He engraved the soft pewter with an old motto. Can you engrave my watch with a date?
2. to carve on something, using some tool or device. The worker engraved the watch with a sharp stylus. Can I engrave this bracelet with this tool? Is it sharp enough?
