1. Used as a confirmational marker at the end of a sentence or clause to ascertain the agreement or understanding of the listener. Primarily heard in Canada. Nice weather today we're having today, eh? So I met Tom the other day, eh, and he was saying that the Canucks don't have a hope of winning the Stanley Cup this year. This sure is a fine cottage on the lake, eh?
2. Used to indicate confusion, surprise, or misunderstanding. A: "You just press this button and the machine starts up automatically." B: "Mr. Terwilliger, nothing's happening." A: "Eh? What's wrong with this thing?" A: "Good morning, Granny." B: "Eh? What's that? Speak up!" A: "I SAID GOOD MORNING, GRANNY." Eh? I'm sorry, but I can't hear a thing you're saying because this blasted air conditioner is so loud!
