dote on (someone or something)

dote on (someone or something)

To give a lot of love and attention to someone or something, perhaps to excess. I can't help but dote on my kids whenever they're home from college—I just miss them so much when they're away! I know she wants to dote on her son when they're together, but that's not going to magically heal the wounds from when she left. Don't you think it's a bit weird the way he dotes on that car?
