To do something that upsets or disheartens someone or oneself. I know that I disappointed my parents with my low grades this semester. Honey, you didn't disappoint me with your dance—I thought you did great! I only saw one mistake. Don't go to that car wash—they'll disappoint with their service, or lack thereof.
